The Boston “Skinny House," located at 44 Hull St. in the North End. The narrowest house in Boston (10.4 ft wide), this home is considered a “spite house”– a home built to irritate neighbors. According to local lore, during the Civil War two brothers inherited a parcel of land in the North End. While one was fighting in the war, the other built a large home on most of the property, leaving his brother a mere sliver. When the brother returned, he angrily insisted on building in the remaining area left, intentionally blocking his sibling’s views and light with this narrow structure.
